What We Will Cover
Our top level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) instruction is given in both Gi and No-Gi classes. BJJ courses are relevant for people of all ages and levels of ability.
Top Control
Top control, whether from full mount, side, knee on belly, north-south or taking the back is integral to asserting dominance over your opponent. Top control focuses on balance, agility and ensuring that position is always maintained before seeking submission.
Bottom Control
Bottom control, whether from full guard, half guard or turtle guard is just as an effective way to dominate your opponent and if used correctly can oftentimes be even more dominant than top control. Maintaining composure and seeking out sweeps and submissions are emphasized.
Takedowns
Takedowns are an offensive means of forcefully taking your opponent to the ground, with the goal of capturing a controlling position or even submission. Takedowns can include close throws committed in the clinch or shooting in for leg takes.
Takedown Defence
As a corollary to takedowns, takedown defence is crucial to ensuring one does not end up in a submissive position on the ground. Maintaining balance, hip, leg and arm position are all key to effective takedown defence.
Submissions
The most effective way of finishing your opponent in BJJ is causing them to tap out from a successful submission. Through joint manipulation, chokehold, hyperextension or the exertion of extreme pressure, opponents can be made to forfeit a match or back away from a fight.
Self Defence
Most important of all, BJJ provides an effective defensive advantage for any gender, age or weight class, and enables often times weaker opponents to exert outsized pressure on a stronger opponent. Through the thoughtful application of submissions, anyone can gain a force multiplier and increase their confidence.
